About Dr. Gene Clerkin

As a Chiropractor and Wellness Coach, I believe life is too good for you to go through it feeling bad. Many have discovered the secrets to maintaining their bodies and their health, and are fully enjoying and participating in life with passion and positive expectation. Why shouldn’t you be one of them?
Back in 1994, after graduating from Life Chiropractic College (now Life University), my practice began as those of many other chiropractors. But 15 years ago I began to feel joint swelling and pain that got progressively worse. It got to the point where I could barely get through the day and I would hope that there weren’t too many clients coming in the afternoon. I was beginning to think about what kind of an exit strategy I might have and what I could do from a wheelchair.
Me. A doctor. It was a little embarrassing and a whole lot scary.
So I was obviously looking for answers. Being an alternative health practitioner I had many opportunities and tried many different things where people would say, “Well, let’s try this and see what happens…” and what would happen was: nothing. I just kept getting worse.
Things were so bad that I wasn’t too proud to go the traditional western medicine route. They didn’t have too many answers either, other than, “Take one of these for the rest of your life (and it’ll make your symptoms feel better).”
I didn’t know what else to do or where else to turn. My quality of life as I had known it had been snatched away, and I had no answers for it.
Luckily a friend of mine introduced me to a functional wellness and functional nutrition approach. I went to a seminar and the practitioner who was running the seminar checked me and found and the underlying reasons why my body was breaking down. It was a bit of a bittersweet moment. I’d gone years without getting some answers and all the while this was right at my fingertips.
I began to detoxify my body, get in good nutrients and use some good whole food supplementation based on the testing that was revealed for my body and my unique needs. I became so much healthier—no more pain, no more joint swelling.
With these remarkable results, I knew right away that not only was I going to use functional nutrition approach to help myself, but I was going to reorganize my practice around it to help many clients that I hadn’t been able to help otherwise.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Since that pivotal moment in my health journey, I have been offering clinical nutrition to clients as our cornerstone service. I’m so glad that I found it not only for me and my ability to continue to practice, but for the many clients that we’re able to help as well.

A few years back, a friend of mine introduced me to a type of work called Nutrition Response Testing (NRT). I went to a seminar and the practitioner who was running the seminar checked me and found and the underlying reasons why my body was breaking down. It was a bit of a bittersweet moment.
